The Girls & Boys Brigade Foundation aims to raise funds from the public to assist in providing long term financial support for the work and programs operated by The Girls & Boys Brigade.

John B Fairfax, AO - President

“My family has had a long and rewarding association with The Girls & Boys Brigade, since my great grandfather, Sir James Fairfax of The Sydney Morning Herald and Mr Samuel Bennett of The Evening News established The Boys Brigade organisation in 1882.

Founded out of concern for the welfare and future of boys engaged in street newspaper selling and others living and working in the inner city of Sydney, the Brigade gave them a safe place off the streets, a social outlet and a range of vocational skills to strengthen their future opportunities.

Our core values of care, respect, integrity and inclusion are deeply embedded in our 139 year tradition of care to the girls and boys who seek our range of activities and positive counsel each day. We are proud that we can continue this today.

As a small charity The Girls & Boys Brigade is very grateful for the remarkable ongoing financial assistance we receive from many individuals, corporations, Trusts, Foundations and those that support our various fundraising events. Whilst this ongoing support is vital to our longevity we are also acutely aware of the ever-increasing costs in providing our range of education and recreation programs. Continuing to meet these commitments stretches our financial resources.

It is therefore fitting that in 2014, in order to secure our financial sustainability, the Board of Directors established The Girls & Boys Brigade Foundation as an additional source of income. Distributions from the Foundation will be directed to the operations and programs of The Girls & Boys Brigade. Current members and future generations will benefit from the legacy we are building.

The establishment of the Foundation is a significant development in the history of this wonderful organisation. It evolves from our strength and creates a further stronghold to our future”

Why create a Foundation?

For over 140 years The Girls & Boys Brigade’s dedicated Board, staff and supporters have tirelessly worked to play a significant role in encouraging thousands of disadvantaged children and youth to realise their full potential and develop into resilient and capable adults.

You can be integral to our mission by helping to build a strong capital base, which will be managed diligently to produce a valuable source of income to help support the Brigade’s important work for many years to come.
